THE VAULTED BAZARS OF IRAN

What you would say if every day you could go shopping under so beautiful domes? As many cities of Iran were stations on Central Asia trade routes, they developed impressive bazars, sometimes several kilometers long. Beside the numerous boutiques, bazars contain baths, caravansaries, schools, tea shops… a whole little world that turn around the business activities. (We didn’t invented anything with the modern “malls”!) One of the bazar architectural specificities is the vault, often open at its top to let the natural light in. Some bazars constitute one of the most beautiful expressions of the Iranian art architecture.
